Just Rambling My Favourite Things

London Markets: Portobello Road, Spitalfields & Camden – My Big Three

I’ve been back in the UK for 12 months now and it’s only been during the last two weeks that I’ve finally dragged myself through my favourite London markets. The trip with my cousin AMP happened on two consecutive days – Saturday and Sunday and on both occasions we made a day of it. My cousin was good at allowing me to take pictures of her, but firmly drew the line when we were eating. As we strolled lazily down Portobello Road, I realised that it had been two and a half years since our last jaunt down the same street together…

Portobello Road Market – Saturday

My second trip in three days and third in a week. Saturday though was the first weekend since 2013, which was the last time AMP and I had hit Portobello’s pavement together. I had forgotten how busy it can be! We, according to the Daily Mail, missed seeing the Jolie-Pitts by the way. Maybe we walked right past them, who knows? I found several stall owners selling vinyl and the collection of Marvin Gaye, The Carpenters, EWF, Smokey Robinson and more made my eyes water with happiness. I plan on returning to take home a collection– once I purchase my Crosley record player  -oops- I mean turntable. I really have missed vinyl. We stuck our heads into a few antique and souvenir shops along the way and chatted to a trio of Americans (not the Jolie-Pitts!) before sauntering off to Spitalfields.

Spitalfields Market – Saturday

From Portobello Road we hopped onto a train to Liverpool Street. To me, the products available at Spitalfields are the same as Camden Lock Market. Or at least extremely similar. I happened upon Lori of London a handmade, organic scented candle and oil company (there seem to be a fair few now, all at these markets), a stall with gorgeous looking cupcakes, each themed for spring and Easter, and wonderful pashminas although I would have had to sell my cousin if I wanted to purchase one!

Lori of London make soy candles in a variety of delicious scents. Find them at Spitalfields every Saturday. I loved the Vanilla candle. Smells good enough to eat!

Camden Lock Market – Sunday

My favourite market in the whole of London. I think Camden is the reason I love London. My parents separated when I was very young so I associate Camden Lock Market with my dad and his then fiancée and occasionally my sister. The four of us would excitedly roam through the market (my dad not so much) and I always had a good time with them. I’m usually interested in two things there: jewellery and art. My new discovery is That Charming Shop, an organic candle and bath treats company inspired by beverages. What’s your favourite drink? I said hot chocolate and was handed a non-toxic, chocolate soya candle to sniff. Hmmmm – divine!

Souk Al Bahar (Dubai) or Camden (London)? These lamps can be found at both actually.
